What Changed
On 22 September 2026 Discord announced that it will place accounts into an age group automatically using account signals, such as how long an account has existed and the kinds of servers someone is in, and says the age estimation model is not currently available for users in the UK and Australia. In the UK, Discord says users are asked to confirm their age group if they want access to age-restricted content, spaces or settings, and a set of safety protections applies automatically to all users until they confirm they are an adult. These include blurring or blocking images and videos flagged by Discord's filters, sending direct messages from non-friends to a separate message requests inbox, a warning before accepting a friend request from an unfamiliar user, no access to age-restricted servers and channels, and no speaking in Stage channels. Discord had earlier announced teen settings for everyone worldwide from March 2026, but on 24 February 2026 it delayed the global rollout of age assurance.
What to Review
- •Open User Settings, then Account Status, on your child's Discord to see which age group the account shows.
- •Check whether the account has been confirmed as an adult, because Discord says several of the protections above can only be changed once an adult age is confirmed.
Parent Actions
- 1Talk with your child about why these protections exist and why they should not confirm an age that is not theirs.
