What Changed

On 10 June 2026 Snap said it was beginning to roll out a new experience for Snapchatters aged 13 to 15, who can create, save and showcase Stories and Spotlight videos on a dedicated profile that is visible only to their mutually accepted friends. Content from this age group will no longer be distributed to non-friend audiences on Spotlight. Snap describes 16 to 17-year-olds as having an optional introduction to public sharing, with additional safeguards, limited distribution and parental visibility. This is a change to how content is shared, not to who can message a teen: Snap describes its contact protections, under which friend requests from people a teen potentially doesn't know aren't delivered and teens can't be messaged by anyone they haven't added as a friend or have in their phone contacts, as existing features. Snap's post names no country limit and gives no completion date for the rollout.

What to Review

  • •Look at your child's profile and Spotlight settings together to see what is visible and to whom.

Parent Actions

  1. 1Remind your child that a friends-only profile is only as private as their friends list, and review that list with them.
