How to report abuse, grooming or scams in Fortnite
A UK parent's walkthrough for reporting players, voice abuse and scams in Fortnite, with CEOP, IWF, NSPCC, Action Fraud and police routes.
Fortnite has in-game reporting for text, voice and behaviour, plus Epic's web-based Player Support team. For UK children, the main risks are grooming via voice chat with strangers, V-Bucks scams, and bullying inside party chat.
If a child is in immediate danger, call 999. Otherwise save the evidence and use the steps below.
How to report inside the app
Save evidence
On PlayStation, Xbox or PC use the system record feature to capture the last few minutes of voice or chat. Note the player's display name, Epic ID, and the date/time in UK time.
Report a player from the lobby
Pause menu → Reporting → Player Reports → select the player → choose reason (Inappropriate chat, Cheating, Harassment, etc.) → submit.
Report a player from a match
After a match → Match Stats → select the player → Report. Choose Voice chat abuse, Sexual content or Harassment as appropriate.
Report a Creative or UEFN island
In the Creative island → ESC / Menu → Report Island → describe the harmful content. Tip: Some Creative islands have inappropriate content disguised inside; report and exit.
Use Epic's web reporting for scams
epicgames.com/help → contact support → report fraud or stolen V-Bucks. If it involves payment fraud, also report to Action Fraud 0300 123 2040.
Escalate externally for serious safeguarding
Grooming or sexual contact with a child: CEOP (ceop.police.uk). Nude or sexual images: IWF (iwf.org.uk). Scams or V-Bucks fraud: Action Fraud. Immediate danger: 999. Non-emergency police: 101.
Talk it through and adjust settings
Sit with the child, validate the upset, and turn off voice chat with non-friends in the same conversation. Replay the event together calmly only once.
Tell trusted adults
Notify the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead. NSPCC 0808 800 5000 for adult advice; Childline 0800 1111 for the child.
Evidence to save
- System-level video or audio clip of the last few minutes of play.
- Display name and Epic ID of the player.
- Date and time of the incident in UK time.
- Platform (PS5, Xbox, PC, Switch, mobile) and game mode (Battle Royale, Zero Build, Creative).
- A short timeline note in your child's own words.
Save evidence BEFORE blocking the account: once blocked you may lose access to the messages.
What not to do
- Do not reply to, threaten or confront the person who has caused harm.
- Do not delete the chat, message or account before evidence has been saved.
- Do not share screenshots of abusive content on social media or in parent chats.
- Do not promise your child you will keep what they tell you a secret.
- Do not wait to see if it stops on its own if grooming or sexual content is involved.
