How to Report on Character.AI
How to report inappropriate AI characters or conversations on Character.AI, and how to block users and contact support.
Flag an inappropriate message
Within a conversation, hover over or long-press the message you want to report. A thumbs-down or flag icon will appear. Tap this to flag the message as inappropriate. You will be asked to select a reason, such as 'Harmful or dangerous content', 'Sexual content', or 'Inappropriate for minors'.
Report a character
Navigate to the character's profile page. Tap the three-dot menu or the flag icon on the character page. Select 'Report Character' and choose the most appropriate reason. Character.AI's safety team will review the report and may remove or modify the character.
Contact Character.AI support
For serious concerns that require immediate attention — particularly if a child has been exposed to sexual content or content that encouraged self-harm — contact Character.AI directly via their Help Centre or support email. Provide as much detail as possible about what occurred.
Block a user
If a user has been interacting with your child inappropriately, navigate to their profile, tap the three-dot menu, and select 'Block'. Blocking prevents further contact. If you believe the person is engaging in grooming behaviour, report to CEOP at ceop.police.uk in addition to reporting within the app.
Adjust safety settings for younger users
Character.AI has introduced additional safeguards for users identified as under 18, including more restrictive content filters. Ensure your child is using an account registered with their correct age, and discuss with them the risks of engaging with AI characters in unmoderated or unmonitored ways.
