How to Report on Discord

How to report users, messages, or servers on Discord that pose a risk to children's safety.

1

Enable Developer Mode to copy message IDs

Go to User Settings > App Settings > Advanced and toggle on Developer Mode. This allows you to right-click messages, users, and servers to copy their unique IDs, which Discord's Trust and Safety team needs when investigating reports.

2

Report a message directly

Right-click (or long-press on mobile) the message you want to report. Select 'Report Message'. Choose the category that best describes the issue — for child safety, select 'It is abusive or harmful to someone' and specify that it involves a minor.

3

Report a user or server

To report a user, right-click their name and select 'Report User Profile'. To report an entire server, right-click the server icon and select 'Report Server'. Provide the reason and any supporting details.

4

Submit a detailed report via the Trust and Safety form

For serious concerns — especially those involving child exploitation — use Discord's Trust and Safety report form at dis.gd/report. Include message links, user IDs, and a clear description of the issue. This team handles the most serious reports.

5

Block the user and review server memberships

Block the reported user to prevent further contact. Review which servers your child has joined and leave any that are inappropriate. Ensure your child's privacy settings restrict direct messages from unknown users and disable friend requests from server members.

This is general educational guidance, not professional advice. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 (UK) or 911 (US).
