How to Report on Microsoft / Xbox

How to manage child accounts, set content restrictions, and report players on Xbox using the Xbox Family Settings app.

1

Download and set up the Xbox Family Settings app

Download the Xbox Family Settings app on your smartphone (available on iOS and Android). Sign in with your Microsoft account and add your child's account. The app allows you to manage their gaming activity, screen time, and content settings from your phone.

2

Adjust privacy and communication settings

In the Xbox Family Settings app, select your child's account and go to 'Privacy'. Choose who can communicate with your child (Everyone, Friends Only, or Block All). Restrict the ability to add friends without your approval. You can also control whether your child can see or create user-generated content.

3

Set content and spending restrictions

In the app, set the appropriate age rating limit for games your child can access. Enable 'Spend Limits' to prevent unauthorised purchases. You can also set screen time limits and schedule gaming hours from within the app.

4

Report a player on Xbox

During a game or in a player's profile, press the Xbox button and navigate to the player's Gamertag. Select 'Report'. Choose the reason — options include inappropriate content, harassment, unsolicited contact, or sharing harmful material. Microsoft's Xbox Safety team reviews all reports.

5

Contact Xbox Safety for serious concerns

If a child has been contacted by an adult in a way that suggests grooming or exploitation, report to CEOP at ceop.police.uk immediately in addition to reporting through Xbox. You can also contact Microsoft's Xbox Safety team via the Report a Safety Issue form in the Xbox support portal.

This is general educational guidance, not professional advice. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 (UK) or 911 (US).
