How to Report on Omegle (and similar chat sites)

How to report harmful behaviour on Omegle-style random chat platforms, and what parents should know about these services.

1

Understand the platform risks

Omegle and similar random chat platforms pair users with strangers for text or video conversations. These platforms carry extremely high risks for children, including exposure to explicit content, grooming, and contact with predatory adults. Many have minimal or no age verification.

2

End the conversation immediately

If your child encounters inappropriate behaviour, end the conversation immediately by closing the browser tab or app. Do not engage further with the other user.

3

Preserve evidence

Take screenshots of any concerning interactions before closing the session. Note the time, date, and any identifying information about the other user that may be visible.

4

Report to CEOP and the police

These platforms often lack effective reporting tools. Report directly to CEOP (ceop.police.uk) if the interaction involved sexual content or a child. Contact your local police on 101 for other serious concerns. The Internet Watch Foundation can also be contacted for illegal imagery.

5

Block access to random chat platforms

Use parental controls and network-level filtering to block access to Omegle-style sites. Discuss with your child why these platforms are dangerous. New random chat sites appear regularly, so ongoing vigilance is important.

This is general educational guidance, not professional advice. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 (UK) or 911 (US).
