How to Report on Telegram

How to report users, channels, and messages on Telegram that may pose a risk to children's safety.

1

Report a user or bot directly

Open the chat with the user you want to report. Tap their name or profile photo at the top to open their profile. Tap the three-dot menu (or 'More' on some devices) and select 'Report'. Choose the most appropriate reason — options include 'Child abuse' and 'Spam or scam'. Provide any additional detail you can.

2

Report a channel or group

Open the channel or group. Tap the channel or group name at the top to open its info page. Tap the three-dot menu and select 'Report'. Select the reason — for child safety concerns, choose 'Child abuse' or 'Illegal pornography'. You can also report individual messages within a channel by pressing and holding the message and selecting 'Report'.

3

Report to Telegram directly via the web

For serious concerns about public channels or bots, you can report to Telegram's abuse team at telegram.org/faq_spam. For child sexual abuse material, report directly to the Internet Watch Foundation (iwf.org.uk) as well as to Telegram.

4

Block the user and review privacy settings

After reporting, block the user to prevent further contact. Review your child's privacy settings: go to Settings > Privacy and Security. Set 'Who can see my phone number' to 'Nobody', 'Who can add me to groups' to 'My Contacts', and disable 'Forwarded Messages' linking to your profile.

5

Report to authorities if the content is illegal

Telegram has limited moderation for private chats. If the concern involves sexual imagery of children or immediate danger to a child, report directly to CEOP (ceop.police.uk) and the Internet Watch Foundation in addition to the in-app report. Contact the police on 999 or 101 if there is immediate risk.

This is general educational guidance, not professional advice. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 (UK) or 911 (US).
