How to Report on WhatsApp
How to report contacts, groups, or messages on WhatsApp that are harmful or inappropriate for children.
Open the chat or group
Navigate to the individual chat or group conversation that you want to report. You can report both individual contacts and group chats from within the app.
Access the contact or group info
Tap the contact name or group name at the top of the chat to open the info screen. Scroll down to find the 'Report' option. On some devices, you can also tap the three-dot menu and select 'More' to find the report option.
Select 'Report contact' or 'Report group'
Tap the report option. WhatsApp will ask whether you also want to block the contact or exit the group. Selecting 'Report and block' is recommended if the contact poses a risk to your child.
Forward concerning messages to WhatsApp
When you report a contact or group, WhatsApp receives the last five messages from that chat. If there are earlier messages that are also concerning, you can forward them to WhatsApp's support by emailing support@whatsapp.com with screenshots and context.
Report to authorities if needed
WhatsApp reports are reviewed by their safety team, but if the messages involve threats to a child, exploitation, or illegal content, report directly to the police on 999 or 101, and to CEOP if the concern is sexual. Do not delete the messages, as they may be needed as evidence.
This is general educational guidance, not professional advice. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 (UK) or 911 (US).
