How to Report on YouTube

How to report videos, comments, channels, or live streams on YouTube that may be harmful to children.

1

Locate the content to report

Find the video, comment, channel, or live stream that concerns you. YouTube allows reports on all content types, including video thumbnails and channel descriptions.

2

Click or tap the report option

For videos, click the three-dot menu below the video and select 'Report'. For comments, hover over the comment and click the three-dot menu. For channels, go to the About tab and click the flag icon.

3

Choose the reason for reporting

Select the most appropriate category. For child safety issues, choose 'Child abuse' or 'Child endangerment'. For other concerns, select the category that best matches, such as 'Harassment and cyberbullying' or 'Violent or graphic content'.

4

Provide a timestamp and details

If reporting a video, include the timestamp where the concerning content appears. Add any additional context in the description field. The more specific your report, the more effectively YouTube's reviewers can assess it.

5

Submit and consider further action

Click 'Report' to submit. If the content involves child sexual exploitation, also report to CEOP or the NCMEC CyberTipline. Consider enabling YouTube's Restricted Mode on your child's device and reviewing their watch and search history.
