TalkTalk HomeSafe Setup Guide
How to enable and configure TalkTalk HomeSafe parental controls on your TalkTalk broadband connection.
Overview
TalkTalk HomeSafe is a free parental control service included with all TalkTalk broadband packages. It filters harmful content at the network level, protecting every device in the home without requiring any software installation. HomeSafe is managed through the My Account portal at my.talktalk.co.uk and offers category-based filtering, keyword blocking, and internet scheduling.
Enabling HomeSafe via My Account
Sign in to your TalkTalk account at my.talktalk.co.uk. Select 'My Services' and then 'HomeSafe'. Click 'Turn On HomeSafe' and follow the prompts to set a security PIN. Once enabled, HomeSafe applies to all devices on your TalkTalk broadband immediately. You can return to the same screen at any time to adjust your settings.
TalkTalk HomeSafe is activated through my.talktalk.co.uk and requires only a few minutes to set up.
Content Filter Categories
HomeSafe lets you choose which categories of content to block. Available categories include adult and explicit content, gambling, drugs and alcohol, violence, self-harm, hate speech, and social networking. You can switch individual categories on or off independently, giving you precise control over what is filtered without applying an all-or-nothing approach.
Toggle content categories individually to tailor filtering to your family's specific needs.
Keyword Blocking
HomeSafe includes a keyword blocking feature that prevents access to websites and search results containing specific words or phrases. This is useful for blocking searches related to specific harms that might not be covered by a category filter. Add keywords through the HomeSafe settings page in My Account. Use this feature carefully — overly broad keywords can inadvertently block legitimate content.
Keyword blocking adds a targeted layer of protection for subjects not covered by the standard category filters.
Internet Access Scheduling
HomeSafe allows you to set a schedule during which internet access is suspended for the whole household or specific devices. This is particularly useful for enforcing bedtime rules. In the HomeSafe settings, select 'Manage Schedule' and define time windows for each day of the week. Devices will see a block message outside of allowed hours.
Use scheduling to enforce bedtime internet rules automatically — no manual switching off needed each evening.
Safe Search Enforcement
HomeSafe can lock SafeSearch on across Google, Bing, and YouTube, preventing your child from disabling it themselves. This is a separate toggle from the content category filters and should be enabled in addition to them. When SafeSearch is locked through HomeSafe, it applies to all browsers on all devices connected to your TalkTalk broadband.
Lock SafeSearch through HomeSafe so it cannot be turned off by your child, regardless of which browser or device they use.
This is practical educational content to support families. For case-specific concerns about a child's safety, contact the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000 or your local safeguarding team.
