How to keep children safe on the Apple Vision Pro and spatial computing headsets — age limits, Screen Time controls, immersion, and eye-comfort guidance.
Apple Vision Pro is Apple's 'spatial computing' headset for ages 13 and over that blends apps, video, and 3D content over the real world, managed through the same Screen Time and Family Sharing controls as other Apple devices.
Apple Vision Pro is a 'spatial computing' headset that blends apps, video, and 3D environments over the real world. Apple states it is intended for people aged 13 and over, and it is a premium adult device rather than a children's product. Its risk profile combines that of a full computer (web, apps, messaging, FaceTime) with the more intense effects of immersive VR/AR: because content surrounds the wearer and blocks their view of the room, experiences — good and bad — feel far more real than on a flat screen.
Vision Pro is a 13+ adult device. For younger children, the safest choice is not to use it. For teens 13+, set up under supervision with the controls below.
Use a child Apple Account within your Family Sharing group so Screen Time, purchase approval (Ask to Buy), and restrictions are managed from your own device.
Block explicit content and 17+ apps, limit Safari to age-appropriate sites, and restrict Messages/FaceTime to known contacts. Set a Screen Time passcode only you know.
Agree short sessions with regular breaks, keep the wearer seated in a clear space, and use the Digital Crown to stay aware of the real room rather than staying fully immersed. Stop at once if the child reports eye strain, dizziness, or discomfort.
Screen Time with a child Apple Account
Location: Settings > Screen Time (managed via Family Sharing from a parent device)
Recommended: Enabled with a passcode you control
Vision Pro uses Apple's Screen Time. Set it up through Family Sharing so you can apply content and privacy restrictions, downtime, and app limits, protected by a parent-only passcode.
Content & Privacy Restrictions
Location: Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions
Recommended: Web content limited; explicit content and 17+ apps blocked
Restricts adult websites in Safari, blocks age-rated apps and media, and prevents changes to accounts — the core protection on any Apple device.
Communication limits (Messages / FaceTime)
Location: Settings > Screen Time > Communication Limits
Recommended: Contacts only
Limits who a child can message or FaceTime, reducing contact from strangers through the headset's communication apps.
Guest User for shared use
Location: Settings > Guest User
Recommended: Use for supervised sessions
If a child only uses the headset occasionally, run a time-limited Guest User session with a chosen set of apps rather than handing over your full account.
Not appropriate. Below Apple's 13+ guidance and unsuitable for young children; do not use.
Not recommended below 13. Any use should be brief, supervised, non-immersive, and on a restricted Guest User session.
Suitable from 13+ with a managed child account, Content & Privacy Restrictions, communication limits, short sessions, and break/eye-comfort rules.
